Julie Zasada
What was your background before joining Geoghegans?
I studied accountancy at the University of Glasgow before deciding to specialise in tax. The ever changing nature of tax forces you to keep your technical knowledge up to date and inevitably provides a challenge every year when the new budget is announced!
Why did you choose Geoghegans?
My interview was very relaxed and informative. I was drawn by the study package, and the size of the firm means that you get a wide range of experience without having to work horrendous hours.
What does your role involve?
Each Tax Assistant is allocated a portfolio of clients on joining the firm which increases in number and complexity through experience. My portfolio now consists of 200+ personal tax clients. These range from directors to sole traders, partnerships and trusts. I deal with tax returns and other compliance work, along with advising my clients on the various aspects of the UK tax system - which includes income tax, capital gains tax and inheritance tax, amongst others.
What do you enjoy most about working at Geoghegans?
I enjoy dealing face to face with my clients and I work with a great team. We spend a lot of time at work and getting on well with your colleagues is really important.
What has been your biggest challenge to date?
The CTA exams have easily been the biggest challenge so far. Studying whilst working full time is exhausting. However, the study package at Geoghegans is excellent - there is plenty of support available and always someone to help you out if you’re struggling at all.
What are your goals for the next 12 months?
Pass the CTA exams!
