Alison Sinclair
What was your background before joining Geoghegans?
I studied Accountancy and Finance at Heriot Watt and joined Geoghegans straight after university.
Why did you choose Geoghegans?
My interview was very relaxed and I got a chance to meet current students who explained that they had been given a wide range of experience and responsibility from an early stage. I chose Geoghegans because I wanted to work for a firm where I would be able to develop a broad range of skills and knowledge.
What does your role involve?
I am part of the accounts team so my main responsibility is preparing year end accounts and tax computations for sole traders, partnerships and small companies. I am also involved in the yearly audits of some of our larger clients. More recently I have been preparing cash flow forecasts and business plans for new companies.
What do you enjoy most about working at Geoghegans?
I enjoy the variety of work that I do, including a two week audit in Zurich, Switzerland each year. Geoghegans has a relaxed and friendly working environment and help is always available if you need it.
What has been your biggest challenge to date?
My biggest challenge has definitely been passing my exams. Having to work and study simultaneously takes a lot of time and effort, but it is worth it in the end!
What are your goals for the next 12 months?
As I have now qualified I aim to be involved in student training and developing my managerial skills.
